Wordnik

Launched as a closed beta in February 2008 and publicly in June 2009, Wordnik endeavors to be “one dictionary to rule them all in a modern, computational age.”

If you are a lover of words (and aren’t we all?), then you’ll enjoy exploring their approach to organizing words, linguistic relationships, and examples of language in use.

You can search for any word under the sun. In addition, if it is a word that has not been encountered before, it will be added to the lexicon and tracked in order to spot and document new and emerging words.

The four founders of Wordnik were formerly members of the US Dictionaries Department at Oxford University Press. Wordnik. The amazing group of co-founders include:

  • Erin McKean, chief executive author
  • Grant Barrett, editorial director
  • Orion Montoya, chief computational lexicographer
  • Anthony Tam, head of engineering
